Imbibe: Summer Cocktails

This past weekend I visited a local sushi restaurant with my fiance and some friends. While perusing the menu, I noticed the drink special for the night was a Jaeger bomb. For those of you lucky enough to have never heard of this particular drink, it's a combination of Jaegermeister and Red Bull. I can't believe that particular college bar favorite has made its way to restaurant menus!

I'm not sure when it happened, but at some point since reaching legal drinking age, my taste in alcohol has matured. While I was never one to drink solely to get drunk, I've moved on from "vodka and any soda that's handy" to conscientiously choosing mixers to enhance the unique characteristics of the alcohol they're going to be paired with.

With summer in full swing, I thought I'd share some of my favorite refreshing summer cocktails; both some bar classics, as well as some new tantalizing concoctions to help you cool off in this summer heat! Now, let's start with the classics!

Margarita: Some days you just need a little tequila!

Mojito: This is one of my all time favorites. When our mint plant blooms in the late spring/early fall, this is our go to drink!

Mint Julep: Similar to the mojito, but made with bourbon rather than rum.

Tom Collins: Light and lemony, this makes a great summer cocktail!

Brown Derby: The brown derby is a recent discovery for me. I would never have believed mixing bourbon with grapefruit would be THIS delicious.

While the classics are great, you've most likely tried most of them already. Up next are a few delectable looking fruity beverages.

Last but not least, these recipes are for those who prefer to mix their alcohol and desserts. Five scrumptious milkshakes and floats!

What's your favorite drink to cool off with on a hot summer day?
