I gave up baking (except for special occasions) a couple of years ago in an attempt to clean up my diet. With only me and the husband in the house, a plate of cookies seemed like a lot of empty calories to split between two people. Fast forward to a couple of months ago, when I joined a neighborhood book club. Now, I've had an excuse to play around with recipes again, and only a few leftovers make their way home for us to snack on.
These crescent rolls are perfect to throw in the oven after work before an evening event. The recipe is super simple (almost all of the ingredients are in the title) and it's so easy to change out a few ingredients for something different. Last month, I left out the blueberry jam and instead added almond extract to the cream cheese filling. You could swap the cream cheese with Nutella for a chocolaty treat, or go savory and leave out the sugar and add chopped up bacon or fresh herbs. The possibilities are endless! This recipe yields 24, but is easily divided to make fewer.
What You'll Need:
- 8 oz Cream Cheese (softened)
- 1/4 c. Sugar
- 1/2 tsp. Vanilla
- 3 cans of crescent roll dough
- 1/4 c. Blueberry Jam
Preheat oven according to the directions on the crescent roll packaging.
Mix cream cheese, sugar and vanilla on medium until combined and smooth. Separate the crescent rolls onto baking sheets (I like to work on 8 at a time, continuing with the next batch while the first pan is in the oven). Spread the cream cheese filling across the whole crescent roll. Add the jam to only the widest portion of the roll (see image).
Then follow the rolling instructions on the crescent roll package. The rolls don't have to be perfect, baking will hide most of the imperfections.
Bake according to crescent roll direction.
